Customer Reviews: Average Rating:

Rating : - Entertaining, but has issues
I found this to be a fun an entertaining game, but only to a certain degree.

One of the main complaints I have about the game is the oponent AI - or the lack thereof. Apparently, all the oponents do is go around the track on the racing line. If they are off the racing line (perhaps because you cut them off, or perhaps because its the start of the race and their grid position was off the line...), they immediately go back onto that line. Even if there is another kart there.
In other words: If you are to pass another racer, they are very likely to run into the side of your kart, because you may be on the racing line. They do so at all cost, sometime (well, quite often actually), even at a 90 degree angle. This slows you and them down, sometimes even brings you to a stop. At times it even happens that several racers get together trying to push each other off the line, which brings 3 or 4 karts to a complete stop (chances are you are one of them, because they by themselves don't seem to fight for position very much).

Also, the game is quite short. Of course, it has quite a bit of replay value. But I only played the game for an hour or two, and I already won on all but 3 courses going through the champoinship.

There also are some technical issues. For one, on some courses, the game comes to a crawl once you do more than a few laps. I guess the game records a lot of data while you are going around and around. I even crashed the game twice in the 2 hours I played so far. Had to do a hard reset (reboot). For a while, the force-feedback steering wheel (which you should def. use
for this game!), was just pounding away very violently.

I hate to say it, be crash bugs and slowdown problems seem to become a trademark of JoWooD. Not sure why, but all their games seem to have a similar problem. Even the mouse pointer seems to be rather slow and unresponsive at times.

However, the game is still fun to play. Actually, a lot more than my review makes it sound. Don't expect a rival to F1 2002 (EA) or Grand Prix 4 though. But hey, I guess this game aims to be the "kart game of the racing genre".
